John Madden is going to be a playable character for the very first time, despite the fact that his name and voice have been featured in the most prominent NFL content game series for more than 30 years. According to the announcement made by EA Sports on Thursday, the Hall-of-Fame announcer will be a playable character in the upcoming installment of the Madden NFL video game series, which is version 23.

John Madden has never appeared as a playable character in any of the EA Sports Madden NFL video games in the entire 35 years that the series has been in production. This is because John Madden is not a football player. As of right now, the two-way lineman John Madden, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles back in 1958 and was drafted by them, is available as a playable character in Madden Ultimate Team for all of the game players in Madden NFL 23. The Eagles used their first pick in the draft to select Madden from the available players. As a result of his play for the Cal Poly Mustangs in 1957 as an offensive tackle for the team, the Mustangs selected him for all-conference honors and bestowed this honor upon him. If the player is successful in completing a number of challenges, their overall rating in DT Madden can be increased all the way up to the maximum of 99.

Because Madden had suffered so many injuries over the course of his career, he was never given the chance to play in an NFL game during his time as a commentator. Even though he hadn't yet started his senior year at Long Beach State, the Philadelphia Eagles selected him in the 21st round of that year's draft to play offensive tackle for them. This was despite the fact that he was still eligible to play for Long Beach State.

The knee injury that Madden sustained during his first training camp with the Eagles ultimately forced him to hang up his cleats and retire from the game. Following his retirement from the sport for good, Madden accepted a position with the team as a coach.

John Madden was elevated to the position of head coach of the Raiders in the days leading up to the start of the 1969 season in the National Football League. In 1988, a content game franchise developed by Electronic Arts and titled John Madden Football asked him to contribute his name, voice, and creative expertise to the project. The franchise was titled John Madden Football.

After Madden's death in December 2021 at the age of 85, he appeared on the cover of the content game a total of thirteen times, including as a memorial for Madden NFL 23, which was released in December 20222. In all, Madden appeared on the cover of the content game a total of fourteen times. After John Madden's passing, a number of his video games, including this one, continued to be published.
